| What is it? | ||
My Story is the
first interactive, electronic storybook that contains an integrated voice-response
system. Children and their parents will be able to modify and interact
existing stories, or create their own stories. My Story promotes both
receptive and expressive language development, as well as reading skills.
Users will not only listen to and read stories, they will be able to change
the story or create a new one by telling My Story what to display. |
||
| Whom is it for? | ||
This new product
is intended for children from approximately 1-8 years old, and is suitable
for kids who are in various stages of language development. My Story is
perfect for young toddlers and preschoolers who are learning concepts
like colors and numbers, and early elementary school students who are
acquiring more advanced reading and language skills. My Story is designed
for children to use with their parents (especially the younger ones),
as well as individually. |
||
| What new things will it do? | ||
Although currently there are a number of interactive learning tools on the market that are designed to promote language skills, My Story introduces a new approach and a unique set of features. It contains an extensive library of vocabulary words and phrases that can be called upon by the voice of the learner. For example, a child reading or listening to a story can decide to change the attributes of the main character. He/she can make him a girl instead of a boy, make him taller or shorter, create two main characters instead of one, and so on. The user can also change courses of action in the story- he/she can have the character go to a new destination or make different decisions. All changes will be displayed in the both images and the text of the story. My Story can also
be used to encourage language and concept development in very young users.
A child who is learning colors can tell My Story to display a green ball,
a purple dog, three purple dogs, etc. Because My Story can both read stories
to the user and allow him/her and his/her parents to read the stories
themselves, it can be used for improving both receptive and expressive
language skills. |

| What are some of its unique features? | ||
| My Story gives users the the ablility to choose from an extensive list of existing stories, or create their own from scratch. Young readers be able to store collections of their stories on the My Story hardrive, which are organized by category. They will also have the unique opportunity to retrieve new stories from the My Story network archive and add them to their collection. The easy-to-use, touch screen interface makes this simple to do. The user can select a category by touchng one of the bookshelf icons, or by saying the category aloud. He or she can then select a specific story from the list of storybook icons that will appear. Readers will also be asked if they would like to visit the online archive, or the "library", for more choices. At anytime, users will have
the option to save their newly created stories, or save the changes they've
made to their existing stories, by pressing the SAVE button. The color-coded
buttons on the My Story interface allow even the youngest users to interact
with their stories. The QUIET button turns the My Story narration on or
off when it is pressed. If they are listening to a story, users can pause
the narration by pressing the STOP button, and resume it again by pressing
the GO button. The GO and STOP buttons are also pressed to begin and end
stories. See all of this for yourself by visiting the tour and demonstration. |
